What treatments are provided by the GentleMax Pro® Laser system?
GentleMax Pro® has been used to remove hair, pigmented lesions, and hemangiomas (an abnormal buildup of blood vessels on the skin or internal organs). The GentleMax Pro® is also used to manage rosacea, improve the appearance of beard bumps, and correct facial veins, spider veins, and leg veins.
How does GentleMax Pro® work?
GentleMax Pro® makes use of two lasers designed to work on patients on either side of the color spectrum, the Alexandrite laser for lighter skin, and the Yag laser for darker skin. The system can easily remove hundreds of hair follicles in a single sweep by delivering a high-energy pulse that destroys the hair follicle without affecting the skin. The cooling dynamics of the GentleMax Pro® immediately cools the skin before and after the delivery of the laser to keep the patient comfortable during the entire procedure. The same type of principal works when repairing damaged blood vessels on the skin.
How does Laser Treatment work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deeply into skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat to the targeted blood vessels. The GentleMax Pro® protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.
What can I expect during treatment?
Treatment will take place at Dermatology Surgery Center. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. The laser is applied to the treatment areas with a small handpiece and each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area being treated.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. Multiple treatments may be required, but many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.
How Can I prepare for Treatments?
Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment. If you have had a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for facial vein treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment.
What Can I expect After Treatment?
A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
Are There Side Effects?
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area. These side effects usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects are rare.
Are These Treatments Covered by Insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Some carriers will, however, cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks such as hemangiomas. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.
